I am a bit conservative when it comes to my data = many hours of work. I would create a folder called something like "Cut to CD\Legacy" and move all the "extra" files there, and when I had a CD full I would cut to CD then delete from HDD. If I had moved something prematurely I could move it back, as it could take a long time to fill a CD. And I could always move back from the CD if need be. That would declutter the "active" folder and have no risk.
