I definitely keep a hard (paper) copy of everything for exactly that reason. I don't know if my children or other family members would really want to get on to a genealogy software program, although I don't know why! ;) The question could be, Sherry, which report/chart that Legacy prints do you recommend that could capture all, if not most, of the data we've entered about families that we could possibly update on a time schedule set by ourselves? That way we aren't entering this information in for nothing if future generations have no interest in using the program itself. I know compiling a book would be an appropriate way, but if we don't make it to that point what can we do in the meantime?
