Presumably the person is in your file because they are connected to
someone else in your file. If the someone else is a blood relation,
calculate the relationship between yourself and the other person and
then extrapolate the generation gap between yourself and the non-relative.

If the person you are interested in is married to a sibling of the
spouse of a blood connection, calculate the relationship between that
blood relationship; his/her sibling's spouse will be of the same
generation. You can work back in a similar fashion to anyone who is
link to you and to the non-blood person.
