Further to my comment below, I followed the Legacy Help instructions and removed "down" from the list of default Location Prepositions. Didn't help.
Next step in Help said to check the box, "Remove the common prep...." on the Sort page of Master Locations. Didn't help. I know I can put a non-breaking space in front of "Down Ampney," but then it doesn't sort in the Master Location list! How do I do this when Legacy Help doesn't help? "born about 1410 down Ampney, Gloucestershire...." No "in" at all, and the name of the town is "Down Ampney."
