I've gotten unconnected people together on a chart by showing George
and Martha Washington as their parents.

You could also use Adam & Eve ... then make them the parents of the
farthest-back person/couple in each line.

It's something that people can understand ... and adds a bit of
whimsy.  Easy to reverse, too.
