Sherry and Melissa,If I remember correctly, PAF had 3 name fields: Given, middle and surname. When I moved from PAF to Ancestral Quest, it added all middle names to 'after the first name' with a space added(?). I had my data base the similar as Melissa (I think). I have many Scandinavian ancestors as follows. I had the three name fields used as (using my (fake) field names: 1. given name 2 patronymic name 3 farm name. [used more in Norway than others]. I don't know how PAF to Legacy works on this situation but it was a mess for me from PAF to AQ. At the time, AQ moved ALL as above, but I had a few months editing AQ's bad guesses(?) and my bad field choices :-( Rich in LA CA --- On Sat, 10/1/11, Sherry/Support <[email protected]> wrote:
From: Sherry/Support <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Merging from PAF To: [email protected] Date: Saturday, October 1, 2011, 7:33 PM Melissa, So so we're sure to be talking about the same thing - you import a file from another program into Legacy. Once you've imported, you *merge* the duplicates. The names should be imported into the correct field in Legacy if they're entered correctly in PAF. Without seeing what's going on in PAF, it's hard to say why they were not imported correctly in Legacy. Please have your group member contact us at [email protected] so one of the techs can take a look at the file and work with him on this problem. If there is indeed a problem with the import process (and I really doubt there is - way too many people have converted from PAF to Legacy with no problem), then we'll need to pass the file over to the programmer to figure out what's going on.
