I agree, totally!  :-)

I'm always nervous of forgetting that I've used a particular tag before
I go to use it for a new task.  So before starting to use a new tag, do
a search to make sure it really is unused...

Press <s> to start a new search (or click on the Search icon, or press
Ctrl-F, or click Search > Find in the menu)
Look for - Individual
Where Tag - x
Equal To
Tagged
Clear List before this search
Create List

If it comes back with a list of names, that tag is being used for
something already.  Clear the tag, or pick another (and repeat the
search on that tag).

If you get the message "No records were found that match the search
criteria" then that tag is currently unused and you can use it with
confidence.
