Tony,

First, the User ID is a text field in the Legacy individual record which can
hold anything you wish to put in it. Some families have their own numbering
system and use it to store their codes.

These steps will tag the blood relatives (and therefore non-blood relatives
will not be tagged):
1) Determine RIN in Legacy of person whose blood relatives you wish. Also,
click Options>Customize>Other>"Clear All User IDs" to avoid confusion with any
previously set User IDs.
2) LTools (deluxe version 1.3.21.25), right side panel, User IDs, Set Special
User IDs.
3) Enter "Starting RIN" from step 1.
4) Click "Fill descendant's User ID with text + Henry number".
5) Enter "HN" (short for Henry Number) in the "Text:" field. (Any text will
work)
6) Put check in box "Exclude Non-Biological Relationships". (Note that this
option uses the Child-Parent Relationships in Legacy to determine true blood
connection. If those are not set correctly for an adopted child, then the
program cannot separate those lines from the blood line.)
7) Click "Run".
8) Read warning and click "Continue".
9) In Legacy, Search>Detailed Search enter the following:
   Look for whom? -- Individual
Where to look -- User ID
   How to look -- Contains
What to look for -- text from step 5
10) Click "Clear List before this search". (Also clear "Second Condition")
11) Click "Create List".
12) When the Search List displays, click Options>Advanced Tagging.
13) Click "Untag" and set "Make changes on #:" to a tag number then click
"Everyone" so that tag is cleared. Click Yes to allow the tag to be cleared.
14) Now click "Tag" and be sure "Make changes on #:" is showing the tag number
cleared in step 13. Then click "Everyone in Search List" so that all the
people found in step 11 will have the selected tag set. Then click "Close".
15) Finally, to find the non-blood relatives (since they are not tagged in step
14) you could locate all relatives who do not have that tag set.

This process may seem complex but you can do many things with it like counting
the actual number of blood relatives excluding spouses, etc.

If you wish a similar procedure for ancestors, follow the above but click "Fill
ancestor's User IDs with Text + Ahnentafel number" in step 4.

Hope this answers your questions.
