If it's the description of the template you want (not really the NUMBER), then I
think if you try to add that source to the clipboard, the choices are listed at
the top---?  Like,

Census > United States > 1860 population schedule > Online images

Haven't put Legacy onto my new computer yet, else I could test that.  Going from
memory.

How do you turn on the template numbers so that you can see what template was
used  on each source?  I know it will turn on when you try and combine two
templates that aren’t the same but is there a way to turn it on manually?
