Still no can do. From within Legacy I do get the Legacy screen but the
button to connect is grayed out.

This is part of what I got from trying to register:
You are just about finished. An e-mail to activate your account was
sent to this address:
ldlee...@gmail.com  Congratulations! Your account is now activated.
You can now use your new user name and password. This user name and
password can be used for some
current and all future FamilySearch applications.
At this point hitting the Continue button does nothing.

This is what I got from the New site:
Your account is not ready for new.familysearch.org. Still not usable.

Is there a Customer Service # where I can talk to a live person?
So far it is terrible!
