A backup should have the file extension of .zip, which is a standard compressed file format. I've never seen Real Player use this file extension, but there are programs that use the same file extension but with different results.
For example, a laptop I bought years ago had Word Perfect on it and when I installed Legacy some of the Legacy program files had the Word Perfect icon showing in Window Explorer, but they were still Legacy files. If you can open the file using File > Restore Family File, then you know it's a backup with the Legacy Family File (has a .fdb file extension) in it.
