Putting it simply, Tagging is a method of marking a group of records
that you want to be able to access easily.

You might Tag a group of people who have a particular Source and you
want to make changes to their Source Details. You might tag a group of
people who died in a certain County because Wills for that County have
been pulished online.

Another useful reason for Tagging is when you want to do a very
complicated Search. You can normally only Search on 3 criteria, but if
you need to search on 4 Criteria (let's say anyone named Brown who was
born between 1800 & 1850, who lived in New York and has no Death Date)
you can initially search on the first 3 criteria and Tag all the people
who are returned. Then set up another Search where the criteria are "no
Death Date" and "Tag n."

There are 9 different Tag numbers which you can use, although only 3 of
them are visible at any one time in the Name List. You can assign
several Tag numbers to the same record if you wish.

From personal experience, I would give you this tip: when you have
assiged a Tag number enter something appropriate in the Tag Description.
It's so annoying when you look at your file and see there a bunch of
people Tagged with the same Tag number and you have completely forgotten
why!
