Valerie, The one aspect of your enquiry which I find puzzling, especially for a One-Name Study, is that post-codes are relatively modern. If my memory serves me correctly they were only introduced in the mid 1960s, so do not apply before then, at least for countries in the UK. It may have been a little earlier in the Republic of Ireland, but I would not have thought by much.
