I wouldn't think so, this is a baptism from an English parish register and
in
the 18th century the incumbents were pretty hot when it came to ascribing
paternal responsibility for illegitimate children. If the fellow wouldn't
admit
it, and the girl didn't let on, but everybody just 'knew', then there was
often
a note added to the register entry which named the man as the 'supposed' or
'putative' father. In the end, it all came down to who they could make
responsible for the child's long-term support.

Leo,

I'm sorry for taking a while to answer your point. I did see it earlier, but
was too busy at that time, and later my ISP went down! However, I'm pleased
to see that Mike has given the answer which I would, with respect to the
baptism.

Indentures are quite different, as these are a contract between two parties.
Usually the father of the apprentice would pay for his son to be articled as
an apprentice, and this contract would specify the terms and conditions
applicable to both sides, including the care and maintenance of the
apprentice.
