Richard,Legacy uses a Microsoft Access database to store the information.
Tables in the database need a unique key to identify each record.  The primary
key to the Marriage Records table is IDMR which is called MRIN on the outside
world.  The Individual Records primary key is IDIR and is similarly called RIN.
Manipulation of records and linking tables depends heavily on these
identification keys.  They can be renumbered but cannot be eliminated.  Think
of them as a mailbox address.  To send mail to someone you need to know their
address.  As long as you have the correct address and the system is working
properly, you can successfully communicate.  The person may move to another
address at which point you have to use the new address if you wish to continue
to communicate.  So it is in the database.  Each individual is assigned a
numerical slot in the filing structure and each marriage likewise has a unique
number where it is stored.  You can
select options to hide these numbers from reports and screens but the numbers
are still being used in the database operations.  This explanation may be a bit
simplistic but I hope it will help clarify why the numbers are necessary.Ron

Where can I find info on the MRIN numbering system?
Under Show Help Index ... MRIN > Number > Renumbering does not open.
Also there is nothing listed under > Options > Customize.  I am
trying to clean up recommended File Maintenance > Check/Repair
discrepancies.
