Suzanne,

It would be helpful to know which type of Legacy sourcing you are using –
Basic or Source Writer, and which country. So, I am assuming Source Writer,
and as I am from England my knowledge is based on their census returns, but
should be applicable elsewhere.

I too have a Master Source for each census eg 1841, 1851 etc. and include in
this only the information which is common to all the censuses, although I do
include the place where I got the census details from in the Repository (eg.
Ancestry, Findmypast etc.) which does mean that I have separate Master
Sources for the census years and each repository.

Having entered the first event(s) eg. names, date and place of birth, I
click the blue arrow, select the Master Source, and complete the details for
the specific census. On returning to the main page I click the single, or
multiple, blue bar depending on the number of events which links the source
to the event(s). To use this Source of other people simply click the
appropriate bar for the Event(s).

Note also that on the right of the Event screen there are paste/copy buttons
which allow one to save a common Event (eg. Residence) to the Source
Clipboard. This can then be used to enter the Event and Source to all
relevant persons just be clicking the Copy button.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Updating the details of sources

I'm having a very frustrating time trying to update my census record
sources. I have one master source for each census, and use detail entries
for the individual census pages. I want to have a transcription of the
family related text and a photo of the census page in each of these areas.
Is there a way to do this without copying the information to each
individual's event?

For example, if there are six individuals listed on the census page, I want
each event for which I cite the source (occupation, residence, etc), to have
both a full transcription of the page and the image of the page. This might
mean at least 16 specific places I would need to go to update the source. I
understand that I can use the source clipboard to add a new version of the
source and then delete the "old" version. Is there a more efficient way of
accomplishing this?

I have purchased LTools but have not figured out if it can be used to make
these changes. Can anyone help?

BTW - I'm using the latest version of Legacy on Windows 7.

Thanks in advance,
Suzanne
