Debbie, That can, and should, happen when you have at least one of the parents having had a child with another person, if you click on that child then it will show the true parents and their kids will be at the top of the list.
If that is not the situation you may have a ghost marriage to which the child is attached, so you need to check for this (View>Marriage List). Otherwise, try File>File Maintenance>Check Repair.
