Yes you make sense, but please don't do it, because '.lwc' files will *only* open in Legacy Charting. If you like it is the non-destructible format for a chart.
If you wish to "save" in a different format you need to export the the file. Open it in Legacy Charting then use Publish>Export and select the format which you require.
