Tony, Firstly a caveat: I would not make assumptions as to whether or not they may be my ancestors/relatives.
The image, as such, is not the Source, it is H. M. Government who conducted and own the census. In the English SW template this is already entered. The image goes into the Multimedia Record. You can link the Census record to the names/dates/places of birth of the surviving kids. The census gives no specific information on the decd. kids, only a note that 3 died. I don’t usually bother with this, but it could be included as a note on the Census Comment. Without further information, my caveat comes into play, whilst you are almost certainly correct, you can include them as unlinked individuals, with a note as to the likely parentage until such a time as you get birth certificates or view a parish record for their births. But, in my view, it would not be correct to link them to the probable parents without such confirmation. One of my ancestors appears having had 6 children, 3 living and 3 having died. They have an unusual surname and a search of the FreeBMD indices shows only 3 children with that surname being born and died in the right time frame in the right area of the country. So, I will tentatively assume that these three were "my" three. I can add the children with FreeBMD sources for names, birth and death dates, but I also want to use the census image as a source, because that is how I knew of their existence in the first place. Is this what the "Unspecified" is used for? Should I use the census source for their death information? I'm not sure of the best way to tackle this. Advice would be appreciated.
