The main advantage to using AKA is that those names by option can appear in the Names List and then an individual can be located using any of the alias names since they are sorted and indexed with the main names. Info in the event records can be searched but not in the same way as the Names List. An alternate name as an event might have more detailed documentation than the alias name.
