I am a bit unorthodox here. If I can copy the newspaper page to my hard drive I treat it as though I have seen the paper myself (and I have!). My citations look like this:
"Funeral Services for John A. Horne to be Held Today," The Augusta Chronicle, 26 Oct 1941, p. 9A, col. 5. [the name of the paper is in italics] This is the format that you would use for a clipping. The reason I do it this way is that it doesn't matter WHERE I got this from, GenealogyBank, Newspaper Archives, Library of Congress etc. If someone needs a copy they know the EXACT newspaper page. It wouldn't take very long to find a repository that had it. I try to make my citations as brief as possible (while still including all of the elements) so that they are easier to read. Through my membership of a particular library I am able to access the archives of 3 different newspapers. I have to log into the library's website and then log into ProQuest from there, using my library member's number. The Newspapers>online images (issued by unrelated content provider) template seems appropriate and fairly straightforward, but at the Master level it asks only for State & City (presumably where the newspaper was originally published), the title of the paper and the format. At Detail level, in addition to details of the particular article, it has fields for website title, URL and Collection. That's where it gets tricky! Do I name the Library's homepage in Website title or more specifically the URL for the "online content" page or even more specifically the URL for the ProQuest-accessed-via-a-library log-on page? (The latter is long and complex.) Or do I ignore the Library part altogether and just cite ProQuest as the Source and use their "direct access" log-on URL? Another alternative would be give ProQuest as the website title and omit the URL altogether!
