Pat, Which report are you creating? I just tried "et als" in italics and created a PDF report for both a family group report and a descendants book report. In both the "et als" in italics (and without quote marks) appeared as just et als in italics.
It shouldn't make a difference but I use Foxit Phantom for my PDF work.
