I have many, very old and even mediaeval documents, and I always transcribe
exactly what was written because they are primary sources. Spelling was not
standardized even in the American Colonies. My biggest problem is that Legacy
does not support manny of the older letter forms that were used. That's why I
often use PDFs or JPGs instead of transcribing.

I don't know if "transcribe" is the correct term. I gathered many
photocopies of documents on a recent trip and would like to "transcribe" them
into text files. I've tried Windows Voice Recognition but it takes longer than
typing (though I'm concrned about carpal tunnel ?)).
My question: When you transcribe, do you enter the spelling and grammar errors
in the original or correct the obvious ones? If the document is old, do you use
the old language or update it for modern readers? (adding a note to that
effect)?
