Thank you Michele,

Yes, it all made sense. When I added them to my uncle and aunt, in the family
view they went from showing as ½ kids to showing nothing after their name.
Doing it that way I thought they were going to show up twice in the family
view, but they did not.

I added the correct relationships for all of the parents, but what would you
put for child status in my uncles marriage so it correctly reflects their
status? Adopted implies by both parents.

This is not something that has come up for me before so appreciate your imput.

Thanks again,

Rita in South Carolina

You can link the children to both families. Just add a child to your uncle’s
marriage to this woman. Right click in the list of children area. Use the
option “link to an existing son (or daughter).” After you have linked the two
children, right click on one of their names (while still in the family view
with your uncle and his wife as the family view couple). Click on “children’s
settings” On this page you can change their relationship to their father and
mother. You can now put them as the adopted children of the uncle and
biological to the mother.

On the family view for the woman that your uncle married and her first husband,
do the same thing. Now you can mark their biological father as their
biological father.

In summary, the two children will show up as children in two different
families. In the first marriage of the woman they will show up as the
biological child of the husband and wife. In the family group of the woman’s
2nd marriage, they will show up as the wife’s biological children but as the
adoptive children of her 2nd husband.

I hope that all made sense.

Michele

Subject: [LegacyUG] new biological father

I am struggling with how to get this right and how it will look in the family
view.

My uncle married a woman with two children from a prior marriage. He adopted
them. I have just learned the name of the biological father (my aunt’s 1st
husband). I have unlinked the children from my uncle and linked them the 1st
marriage. Now, how do I add them to my uncle and show they were adopted by
him. Right now they are showing as ½ kids in the family view.

Thanks,
