I think you summarized it quite well. Each researcher makes their own decision on what to include as events and where to put details they found about that event. It is also a matter of personal choice on what to include with a source. The "essential" information is to identify the document, web page, book etc. in a way that someone can find the same document. Any extra information such as an transcription of all or part is optional.
