Have undertaken further testing as indicated below.
>From within Legacy Search and Replace, if we initially consider only fields within Events, the following is indicated. 1. Enter Event-Description into the Find where: window. This field is a text field named Description within tblER, therefore it is possible to insert a space into the Find what: window, set How to Find to either Starts with, or Ends with, press Search and the instances will be located and from which correction can be made via the Replacement text window. 2. Enter Event-Notes into the Find where: window. This field is a memo field named Desc within tblER, as such the functions as referred above will not work. So there we have it, Search and Replace within Legacy is a powerful tool when utilised within a TEXT field, but less powerful within a MEMO field. There are numerous memo fields so be aware, particularly within tblIR referring notes for BMDB etc. Nevertheless, there are also numerous text fields so have fun checking and correcting data within these. Some other useful strings to enter to Find what window: 1. Space and full stop. 2. Space and comma. 3. Space and comma space. Other things to be aware: 1. When Picture-Description is entered to Find where: window, the Search and Replace function ONLY works on those pictures that have been Assigned with data residing within tlbBR. The Search and Replace function does not work on the base picture data which is located within tblPicList within Piclist.dbm. 2. Picture-Description within tblBR is a memo field named PicDesc, therefore Search and Replace is limited as referred above. Barry From: Barry Hardman [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, 22 November 2012 3:07 PM To: '[email protected]' Subject: Search and Replace spaces at end of last sentence/paragraph Whilst new to this user group, have been actively using Legacy for a decade or so. Have published 5 books through Publishing Centre, with seven more almost ready to go and also published 4 photo albums with up to 2,000 photos in each. Looking to find a methodology whereby through Search and Replace it is possible to locate one or more spaces (space bar) at the end of the last sentence/paragraph within Event-Notes and Event-Description. Obviously, the methodology, once resolved will work in any text field within Search and Replace. Currently it is a matter of either viewing or running a report, note where there is a gap between events and then manually navigating too and deleting spaces. Currently our data is clean, but as we teach/mentor other Legacy users, clean-up of their data can be time consuming.
