I came across a rather strange case just recently. I had several Source
documents for a relative named Pitt, including his Baptism, and also
several for some of his ancestors and descendents. Trawling through
Parish Registers I found the Baptisms of all his children that I knew of
and a couple more besides, BUT, most of the children were baptised
under the name of Dinnage, which previously I had only come across once,
when one of his daughters gave her father's middle name as Dineage when
she married.

Taking all the evidence into consideration, I am convinced this is all
one family. For convenience, I am recording *all* the children with the
surname Pitt and with an AKA of Dinnage if that is the name they were
baptised under. I am using the Baptism Register entry as a Source for
the AKA for those baptised as Dinnage (and for the AKA of the father)
and for the Name for those baptised as Pitt.

I would appear that some of the Dinnage children died in infancy. I
haven't yet searched for evidence of this but I know that if I find
their burials were recorded in the name of Dinnage I should, strictly
speaking, record Dinnage as their Surname in Legacy. However, as I
said, I am chosing the convenient way of having Pitt as the main surname
for everyone and will write an explanationin the General Notes for all
those who only ever appeared as Dinnage or appeared under both names.
