I have the original Kindle Fire (rec'd as Xmas gift last year) and it works great with Families App. I find that synching via WiFi is easier than connecting to my PC. TelGen has instructions on their website.
Note that the $159 price below includes "Special Offers" that display on the device. I have the one without, which was a bit pricier, I think (gift, so I'm not sure).
