What you describe as your first email is a copy of your email generated by gmail and sent to your gmail inbox. Why gmail does this is a mystery to me … it may be the result of your gmail settings (I don’t know). I’ve had the same thing happen to me on my gmail account with a few other listserves. That’s one of several reasons why I tend not to use my gamail account as much. I never figured out if it was an oddity in gmail, or an oddity between how gmail and legacy’s listserve interact at the gmail end. Hi, Wendy, I really appreciate your interest! I am seeing the double messages on the web: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox [. . . etc.] There are these differences in the two emails: 1st difference: The initial one begins like this: Pat Hickin <[email protected]> 2:18 PM (7 hours ago) to LegacyUserGroup whereas the 2nd email one begins like this: Pat Hickin via legacyusers.com 2:18 PM (7 hours ago) to LegacyUserGroup The body of the email, of course, is the same in both. 2nd difference: The initial email ends after my name (Pat). The 2nd email has the usual Legacy add-ons: (Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp . . . .[etc.] To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp) Does that tell you everything you need to know?? Thanks so much! Pat On Fri, Jan 4, 2013 at 7:51 PM, Wendy Howard <[email protected]> wrote: Hi Pat, WHERE are you seeing the double messages? At Gmail on the web (www.gmail.com), or in an email program on your computer where you've downloaded your mail (such as Outlook or Thunderbird)? Is it all LUG mail, or only your own posts? Are the two copies identical? Or are there slight differences? I'd hazard a guess that the duplicates are only when you post yourself, and there are slight differences, such as [LegacyUG} and the footer with links being added to the second copy. If that's the case, then you're looking at the situation that others have already mentioned - the first copy is the "Sent" copy, the second is the list copy. Nothing wrong with that, it's just how Gmail processes this particular mailing list. Some other lists behave differently, using different software to run the lists. If my guess isn't right, would you answer my questions please, so we can perhaps help you find the answers you seek?
