Roland,
Your example shows 3 facts/events that are described in the Notes field,
rather than using the Events structure. I must admit that I often find
myself doing that, even though Events are easier to source precisely. I
would like to point out a couple of small things that I have found, when
reading the various Legacy reports generated from this material.
(1) I suggest caution when using the first person ("I didn't find...").
The problem is that you might share your data with others, or you might
import some notes from others. Or someone else might inherit your work. So
the first person pronoun is ambiguous. Who didn't find the stone, and when
did they look for it? At a minimum, if you do wish to use the first person,
then qualify it. For example: "I [R. Rhoades] didn't find a stone for Vernon
when visiting this cemetery on Jan 2013."
(2) I also suggest repeating the name of the person being described. This
is because some reports intermix notes/events of spouses and children in a
way that makes it hard to figure out who is being talked about. So I have
gotten into the habit of avoiding the third person pronouns too, at least at
the start of a paragraph. Your last 2 notes are not ambiguous. Perhaps the
first note could say "Joseph was described on [source] as being 5'11", ...".
And on Cliff's original subject, I agree that hyperlinks are not a great
idea in notes. Not only might they become obsolete, but they tend to clutter
the readability of the report. Certainly the source citation can still show
where you accessed the information.

For sources, I prefer to just say 1900 census rather than point to which
company hosted the census, [location, family # etc and what it says], and
actually for simplicity in printing reports and also seeing at a glance what
I have in Notes, I use ONLY the general notes field to enter ALL extra info.
One example for my gg-grandfather Joseph Melvin Flagg is:
Genetic tree: 5'11", dk brown hair, hazel eyes, asthma, balding, chronic
myocarditis. Usually had a mustache.
Joseph & Minnie are buried in Libby Hill Cem in Gardiner, along with son
John and family, and Vernon, in Lot 7-13. I didn't find a stone for Vernon.
1910 census: Joseph M Flagg shoemaker age 40 Married 19 years, he and
parents born ME, is a prisoner in the Mass State Prison, 5th ward Boston.
Talking to family, they said it was likely from a bar fight when they were
living in Brockton looking for work.
