Thank you RonThat sounds like it will do what I want.  I'll pass this along to
our genealogy team for their use too. I tend to use "gedcom" generically; yes,
I'll keep it a Legacy file. Our LEAVITT genealogy team compared PAF, FTM, TMG,
Roots Magic, and decided on Legacy as the best to use for our project.  Roland

Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Maternal line tagging  Roland,Your question is pretty
easy.1) Clear a tag to be used for this process2) Navigate to the ancestor for
whom you plan to extract descendants3) Right click on the tag for that person
and then tag all descendants which will include spouses4) File>Export to>Legacy
file>5) Name new Legacy file to contain the exported data6) Set "All records
with an individual tag of" and the tag number7) Check all 3 boxes under that to
include parents, children, and spouses of tagged8) Open the exported database9)
Generate your GEDCOM file as needed  Jacob,Your question is a little more
involved but uses some of the steps outlined above.1) Clear 3 tags for this
process2) Tag your ascending pedigree on tag 23) Tag all descendants of the
maternal ancestor on tag 34) Search>Detailed Search> Tag 2 = Tagged and Tag 3 =
Tagged5) Tag the search results on tag 16) Continue at step 4 above  Good luck
with those exports.  I
recommend sending a backup of the exported Legacy database versus sending
GEDCOM and encourage those receiving the files to use Legacy to examine and
merge the data or other collaborative efforts.Ron Taylor

Date: Thursday, March 7, 2013, 1:28 PMI have a similar question.I have a
thousand or so Leavitt descendants in my personal gedcom that I want to copy to
my gedcom for the LEAVITT Family Assn as their genealogist.Of course I can pick
the oldest person and create a gedcom of all his descendants. But that either
picks the bare bones with NO parents of spouses, or it grabs everybody in any
way connected, adding lots of unwanted stuff into my LEAVITT gedcom. For the
LEAVITT genealogy, we don't care who the grandparents of the spouses are, all
we want is the NAMES of all the spouses' parents like you get when you print
out a book of descendants. What is the simplest way to do that? Thanks. Roland

Subject: [LegacyUG] Maternal line tagging Hello,

I would like to create a GEDCOM of only my maternal line and all relatives of
their spouses via tagging.  But when I try either both my mother's relatives
and my father's relatives are tagged or only the direct descendants for my
mother's line are tagged. The latter is close to what I want, but I still must
seek out parents of spouses and tag them individually.  Can anyone suggest a
quicker or neater method of tagging?

Thanks in advance,

Jacob
