Jay,The routines to "find duplicates" are the same whether comparing two files
or just searching a single database.  If you want to separate all the
"unlinked" individuals from the main tree, you could make a copy of the
database, then tag the main tree and delete all records not tagged, then in the
copy delete all records that are tagged.  Now you have one database with the
main tree and a second database with the unlinked individuals.  Proceed to
compare the two files for duplicates.  If your intent is to merge the
duplicates, then do that in the file that contains all the trees and just
resolve the duplicates.  Use automerge to make quick work of the duplicates
that are completely equal.  Records that have some differences will need to be
reviewed manually.
Some of my large databases required several weeks to resolve duplicates.  It's
great when you get to a point that no more duplicates can be determined but the
process must be followed again when data is added to a database.

collaboration with fellow researchers once you have a clean database to begin

I have a rather large database of over 200,000
But 150,000 are all linked to each other in the 'main' tree.
Then in tree view thee are 10,000 + other trees.

How can I compare persons not linked to the main tree to those in the main tree?

Do I need to export them out in a gedcom and then compare the gedcoms?

That would be cumbersome as a regular duplicates search.
Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jay
