I'm using Legacy on my Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx with Windows 8. No problems. I use
the keyboard when doing genealogy on the tablet so can't say how well Legacy
works with the touchscreen.

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Running the Families app on a Windows tablet

Malcolm,

First of all, I *love* Families and have it on my Kindle Fire and Android Atrix
phone.

But I wonder why you'd want to run the app on the Intel Windows 8 tablet (i.e.,
Surface Pro) when you can run Legacy on it? Isn't that version supposed to run
any program which will run on Windows 7?

I do hope that someone comes up with a Windows 8 Phone or Windows RT genealogy
app like Families. It's something that's really needed and not having a
genealogy app has prevented me from getting a Windows phone or tablet (I've
played around with my husband's Windows phone and it's *so* easy to use). Until
then, I'm sticking with Android devices.

Thanks,

Sincerely,
Sherry

Someone recently questioned whether a version of the Families app would be
released for Windows tablets.  We currently have no plans to develop a version
for Windows but there is a way to run the Android version of the app on
Windows, using BlueStacks App Player (http://www.bluestacks.com/).  This
enables the app to be installed from Google Play and other app stores on
Windows 7 or 8.  Currently it only works on the Intel version of Windows 8
(e.g. on the Surface Pro tablet), but BlueStacks have indicated that support
for the ARM version (e.g. the Surface RT tablet) may be available some time
this year.  Families appears to work well with BlueStacks.  File transfer using
Wi-Fi or USB can’t be used but transfer using DropBox works well.  We’ll be
interested to hear from anyone who uses Families with BlueStacks.
