Thanks Jay - and Ron for following on with detailed steps.

The process of conducting a Detailed Search with the ‘Primary Condition’ of
Relationship Equal To Related and the ‘Second Condition’ of Relationship Equal
To Spouses and In-laws brought together in a list all the individuals that I
was hoping to export. Instead of setting tags for these individuals I just
exported the list as a Focus Group entry.

I am a little surprised these parameters are not directly built in to the
export process (as I would think that many people would just like to export
individuals with a specific relationship to a nominated person), but I am
pleased to know that it can be done.

Thanks again,

Matthew

Jay,

Your suggestion to use Detailed Search and Relationship Equal To Related to
find all those that have been identified with some relationship is another
great way to find and then use Advanced Tagging to tag the relatives. Begin by
using Tools>Set Relationships and specify the parameters as desired. Then the
Detailed Search and finally click Options>Advanced Tagging to tag the results
of the search. Proceed with export as I previously outlined.

Matthew,

I think I know what your asking,,,

Is there an easier way to get all the relatives of a person, that is broader
than that persons ancestors (plus spouses and siblings), but not every person
connected in any way.

I have 22,000 people related to me in my database of 210,000 people.
If I tag ancestors (plus related) I get only 761 persons

If I tag "related in any way", I get all 174,000 that are connected within the
one 'tree'

But if you "reset" the relationships to the person you want to export all
his/her relatives to , you should get the correct set of persons.

Then simply do a search for all those who are related, Tag them and use that
tag number to select persons to export to gedcom.

Dont forget to reset relationships back you yourself, if that is your regular
default.

Does that make sense?

Jay

Hello,

Is there a way to export a Legacy file that includes an individual and all
their relatives (but excludes relatives of relatives if not related to that
individual)?

Cheers,
