I have 3 external hard drives, two stay at home and one goes to a safety deposit box, a total of 4 copies, one is the master on my computer. I backup on each every week or so, legacy file and multimedia backup, or when major changes, additions are made. I also unplug the drives when not in use. A kind of unbreakable firewall. That may be a lot , but not that much if you lost it all.

Should have figured this out on my own, but it was the first time it had happened to me. What would be considered the best backup practice? Eventhough one should backup files everytime, are their sets of backed up files that should be saved. For instance, saving a "master" backup every 6 months? A non-legacy user friend backs up her files to a Gedcom every month. ------ Original Message ------ From: "Kathy Thompson" < [email protected] > To: [email protected] Sent: 11/16/2013 7:13:38 PM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Backup Error >From the Legacy Error help files There are two causes for Backup Error: 507. Cannot write to .zip file • The ZIP file being created exceeds the maximum size of the removable storage device. • The storage device is full or has been removed. Make sure that the removable storage device is properly inserted. Also, you may have to delete existing files on the device to make room. If the removable store device still lacks sufficient capacity after deleting files, you will need to purchase one with greater capacity. change the location of where your backup will save to and try again If no luck, post back and maybe someone more experienced will have an idea On 17 November 2013 10:08, Sentz < [email protected] > wrote: <blockquote> I am getting the backup error: 507 can not save to zip file. However, when I checked my remote external hard drive, one can see the back up. I tried to do a file clean-up previously and the software advised to do the back up first. Any suggestions?
