I've found the best way (for me) to split a file is to simply use Windows to make a copy of the original file and then using Legacy remove the individuals that are not wanted. This latter step is so easy if you first break the links closest to your split, and then use tree finder to delete the unwanted sections. As with *all* major database changes make backups every step of the way so if something doesn't work as expected/wanted you can easily go back just one step instead of starting over. Hope this helps.
