Pauline, You do not need any Office installed. We used those names because they match the way those versions of Office implemented the ribbon designs and colours. For those who are Office regular users we thought describing the style in reference to the Office version it matches would be useful.
Although there are many tweaks and options for how things look in Legacy 8 there is no need for you to worry about them. If you like the default, out-of-the-box look of Legacy 8 then just run it with those defaults.
