You can open your L7 Database but you are wise to use the first open which copies the database to the new default folder for Data in Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data
and then converts it.
This leaves your Legacy 7 database intact.
Note that you can actually put your database anywhere you like BUT you cannot delete the Documents/Legacy Family Tree folder.
This folder includes the vital _AppData folder with your personal settings, licence, etc. so you may as well use the Data folder there.
If you find your media is not connected or all connected use the Tools Ribbon - Media Relinker.
It's a good idea to use this anyway as it will let you know if everything is attached or not.
With Legacy 7 I never used the defaults but with Legacy 8 that I've been using since April, I'm using the default for Data but not for Media.

Have been reading all the postings since the release of L8 and have made
my purchase, received my number and 'flipped through' the manual. I am
missing something.
I have L7 Deluxe and am preparing to migrate my databases to L8 (good
project for Monday and Tuesday when the wind will be howling, the snow
will be falling and a temp of -30C).
I have backed up all my DBs.
Do I import the L7 DB or the backup? As I understand it, if I import
the L7 DB then I will no longer be able to access it with L7. Yes?
You could answer direct if you do not wish to call me a dummy in a
public forum.
Thanks all. Looking forward to learning the new features. Thanks Team
