Lee Bruch, I think you are referring to the Microsoft “Public Beta’s”.
Microsoft is the only software OEM that I am aware that has done this. I have done Beta testing for several OEM’s and it is not unusual to go through 3-5 versions. On one beta we had 9 versions to test, before it was sent out to be Released. You will also find that these Public Betas are time bombed, and have to be “uninstalled” before the “production” release is installed. And ALL of these “Public Beta” would be forced to buy the new version as their data would be in the new format as there is NO going back. I do not think a Public Beta of Legacy would be any more beneficial than what is happen now. We have had 3 or 4 updates since it was released. That is almost one every day, I have never seen any other OEM respond with updates this soon and fast. I installed Legacy 8 Standard the day it was released. Then on morning Dec 2, I ordered the CD and download of the manual. That afternoon I received my legacy Customer Number, and was able to then have the Deluxe version. I have yet to receive instructions on downloading the manual, but I know that takes time, the help files are enough at this time. I am running Legacy 8 on 2 Windows 7 machines, one 32 and one 64 bit. I will be working them pretty hard in the next few days. But I have a couple of Family Research SIG’s to go to today Thanks, David C Abernathy Email disclaimers ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message represents the official view of the voices in my head. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.SchmeckAbernathy.com == All outgoing and incoming mail is scanned by F-Prot Antivirus == On Tue, Dec 3, 2013 at 11:37 PM, Lee Bruch <[email protected]= <mailto:[email protected]=%22mailto:[email protected]%22> "mailto:[email protected]">> wrote: At one time, after the formalized Beta testing by professionals, often software was released to the general public still labeled as “Beta” for the first while. This had several benefits: 1. The wider “public” group, using a much wider assortment of software, hardware, and personal configurations, would discover the needs for additional tweaks to be included in updates prior to removing the “Beta” designation. 2. It would establish expectations of the users. The users would realize that they are utilizing a very early version and that some glitches are bound to be discovered and corrected. 3. It would serve as a warning to less-experienced users that they may want to wait awhile until the remaining kinks were ironed out.
