Charting does have a general option to use short locations (This does not work and the problem is recorded). The Appearance > Box Items does have a working option to use short locations but it is on the screen where you define the options for items with a location so you have to tell each item to use a short location.
There is a feature request recorded to add handling of Quoted names to charting.
