I’ve had this problem since the beginning of v8. At this point, all I’m receiving is the monthly reminder to check for updates, at which point I have to go to the Legacy Home tab & check for update availability. Otherwise, I only hear about them when mentioned on this user group.
Formerly, I’d swear that v7 & v7.5 would give a popup something to the effect “check to see if a new version is available?” when at startup. In Legacy 7 it would notify me of a new build; not so in Legacy 8. When I raised this issue before on this list, support told me that I had to close Legacy for the notification to be made. I started doing just that (previously I would let Legacy run for days at a time) and did NOT get notified that 381 was available except on this list! When I clicked on "Check for updates" it said there was one. I did not follow up; rather, I closed Legacy, shut down my computer, restarted everything. Still no notification. I then did update with no problem. But, the notification does not work for me either. I now check frequently. I do wonder how many others have this problem? John Genealogy - - - - - it's in my blood! I live in Canada and hear about the upgrades from a colleague in Scotland. Perhaps the notifications to update are regional so as not to overwhelm the system. I have to go to the Legacy website and look for the updates and download/install from there. The procedure now treats the upgrade like a new installation, complete with emailing me a temporary password. And there is also the entire 66MB file to download each time which can present a problem for those with slower connections.
