Hi Earlene,

Here is part of an email I saved from Sherry in Technical Support stating that
Legacy 8 does not work with Crossover.

Crossover isn't free. It's the supported version of WINE and there's a charge
for it, although Legacy users get a discount.

WINE is free.... but unsupported. <http://www.winehq.org/>

I don't know if it works with v8 - since Crossover doesn't at this time, I
don't think WINE will work with Legacy.

Sincerely,

Sherry

Earlene:

You might try these 2 things:

1. In my use of VMWare and Parallels, It works the best if you set the virtual
machine up to NOT share files with the Mac. The VMs use basically network
drive locations for the VM (e.g., //psf/user/Documents/...). Network drives
that have a "//" as the beginning of the drive location is just not in the L8
vocabulary.

2. Open up L8 with no file and go to Options >Customize >6. Locations.

Change the Default location for 6.1, 6.2 & 6.3 to the normal location in the
Windows environment
6.1 would be: C:\Users\Earlene\Documents\Legacy Family Tree Beta 8\Data\

6.2 would be: C:\Users\Earlene\Documents\Legacy Family Tree Beta 8\Media\

6.3 would be: C:\Users\Earlene\Documents\Legacy Family Tree Beta
8\_AppData\Temp\

After doing steps 1 & 2, then try to open your L8 database (assuming you have
copied it to the location in 6.1 above).

When you run the Tools >Media Relinker to get all of your pictures located,
make sure you just have drive C: selected to search. The VMs may have several
other network drives that L8 doesn't recognize.

Good luck.

When I try to restore, open or import my family file, I get an error message
