Jane, The backup function in Legacy 8 is essentially identical to version 7. Look at the "Options" button at the bottom of the backup window. There you can select whether to append the current date and time to the name of the backup zip files. With the current date and time appended to the backup file names, you will have new backup files created every time you make a backup.
A critical question that you need to answer is "How many Legacy databases do you have?" If you only think you have one database, then it should be easy to find the last one you modified. It sounds like you may have lots of backup files for that database. As long as you always open your active database, it does not matter how many backups you keep. If you have somehow created multiple active databases that originated from the same common database, you could merge all of them back together with the Intellishare Merge. Please be more specific as to how many databases you have. Do not count how many backup zip files but just the files with the .fdb extension. Now I find that my backups all are saved under the title, "Legacy Another Format 1-19-14 2014" no matter what date I save them. I have backups saved on March 23 that still say the January date. And I can't tell one from the other - there are several in my Legacy Backup folder all of the same name. And in the Backup Options box I tried to change the name of the backup to "Main Family File" . but it still says the "another format" t This is a grand mess and I am sorry I ever left V. 7. How can I get started straightening this out. I have no idea how much data I may have lost. I am just not very good with doing the tecnical stuff. Pretty disgusted.
