Hi Roger,

No Legacy has to be installed onto the actual
computer.  I know a few programs these days can
be installed and run from external drives but not many.

I assume you are asking because you want to move from computer to computer.

You can have your databases and media on an external drive.

However the program and your settings will be on the computer.
With Legacy 7 the program and settings will be in
the Legacy program folder and needs to be outside
of the Windows Program Folder.

With Legacy 8, the program itself is by default
installed under the Windows Program Folder.
Your settings are placed in <username>/My
Documents/Legacy Family Tree/_AppData   This
folder cannot be changed. Depending on your
version of Windows it will be called My Documents
or just Documents but it's the windows designated
place for Documents for a particular user.

You could have the installation file on your
external drive so that when you use a different
computer you can install Legacy on that computer if necessary.
