This is a great thread. I have a 17-page letter written by my 3rd great-grandfather to his grandsons, in which he shares all he knows of his family's history. I have entered it as a master source, and cited it many times. However, this thread is prompting me to excerpt the description of his grandfather's Rev. War experience and place that in either the General Notes or an Event (Notes) of the Patriot. Have either of you determined which looks best to you? (General or Event Notes?) Thanks. --Paula in Texas Researching: Adair Baker Beasley Benson Betz Bigley Blagrave Burton Chapman Clement Clough Coppernoll Costine Daulton Dinwiddie Doody Ellis Exline Field Floran Floyd Gates Goodale Gordon Gump Hale Harbaugh Hind Hopkins Hughes Hurdle Jones Klein Koyle Laswell McDonald Misner Passwaters Pelton Roberts Roche Ryburn Sanford Short Singer Sullivan Weller Williams

I have an essay of sorts, written by a great-aunt, titled (name deleted to protect the guilty), "I. F. L's. Story Of Her Father And His Family" which also includes some information on the paternal grandfather and his family. It is seventeen pages long. Would you put that as a master source and then list and show the specific page as the detail? Wendy mentioned, ". . ., and it's not too long, I would transcribe . . . ." I would not have to transcribe it as it is typed and saved as a file elsewhere. Could I link the file to the master source callout (if that is the right word)? I also am compiling a 600-page family genealogy and include the essay as an appendix. Should I put them as sources, general notes, event notes, etc??? Example.. I have a two page essay written by H Caraway titled "My Mother Bertie Le Mills Fish 1906-1997". It is basically memories of H from her childhood regarding her mother. So what is best practice to document this? Thanks.
