Glynn, If I've understood correctly, you need to go to Options - Customise 8.9 and untick If there is no individual picture, show any other picture associated with birth, death or events.
If you don't like the silhouettes when you don't have an individual picture, this is also where you get rid of them, if you do like them and don't have them, this is where you turn them on.
