I have a separate database of my father in law's 50 years of research containing over 100,000 individuals.
I'm trying to get the program to show the relationships of the direct line so that I'm able to compare these to some Ancestry.com DNA matches. I set the parameters so that non-blood relationships were not checked/included and the 'limit to closests relationships' is set on 999, the maximum. I didn't limit that parameter because I was concerned that if I limited it, the relationships wouldn't set far enough back. I want to support relationships back about 20 generations, 15 at least. The problem is that it is taking so long to work; I started on this last night and it's still calculating now after an hour of 'waking' my laptop. The numbers in the 'blue box' toward the bottom keep increasing in 500 increments and is now up to 526,500 and increases by 500 about every 3 seconds. How high should I expect that count to go? Should I change the '999' to a lower number? If I do, will it cover the needed generations? Did I miss something else that I should have 'clicked'? I guess this time I will just let it work in the background the rest of the day but I wanted to get this question out to the list to see if I am doing something wrong or if this is normal for this size database.
