Ron at this stage I don't have a clue where he filed the media - there are
literally tens of thousands of different photos on his drives!

Marion,
You can go back to Reunion if you wish. That would be like having a
Ferrari in the garage and opt to drive the Yugo. Both might be fun but
with different outcomes. If your media files are not excessively scattered
on the Mac, then copy all of them to an external drive or USB stick and
then put them on your Windows hard drive. Import the GEDCOM file, then run
Relinker. I think you'll be surprised.

Thank you Ron - sorry your email slipped into the spam box (despite the
fact I have all LUG replies marked to be accepted!!!).
It looks as though this could be a long and tiring exercise - I will study
the link in detail next week. At this stage I have no idea where his photos
and other attachments are so even if I can transfer over with a gedcom I
shall have to find the various media files as well. I am beginning to
wonder whether I may have to learn how to use the mac and Reunion!
Thank you for your help.

I have converted Reunion files before. This article gives a lot of
information from an actual Reunions user. The conversion involves using a
GEDCOM which is the only way to move the information to another program
like Legacy. With that knowledge, you only need to realize that a GEDCOM
does not contain pictures but may contain the path name to pictures if any
are linked to the data. Likewise, the GEDCOM can contain types of data
that need to be mapped to things in the target system. Same is true for
any GEDCOM conversion. Easiest way to find out is to try it. Here's the
URL for the article.

Thanks Bob - I had a feeling that was the case - have no experience with
Reunion (or Macs for that matter!) so this will be interesting!!!

Hi Marion,
A gedcom is a text only file, so photos, as such, do not 'come with the
gedcom'. There could be a pointer to the photo, if that is how Reunion
handles the files. I have no experience with Reunion.
