Best advice given by Bob Austen.  Run check/repair on your 7.5 file and be sure
all errors are repaired before moving forward.  Then check a few of the key
families that you thought were corrupted at version 8.  If they are corrupted
in 7.5, upgrading to version 8 won't fix that kind of problem.  Last, if the
7.5 file is clean, open it in version 8 and have it copied and converted to
version 8 leaving the 7.5 file where it is.

Check out the newly converted file, especially the key families that you
checked in 7.5.  Run a check/repair in version 8.  Should be good-to-go now.  I
have not had any 7.5 databases corrupted by the upgrade.  My main file is
253,000 individuals and is working great.

It sounds like you most likely opened the wrong file.  Double check your file
names and dates.
