Hi Gene,
Take a look at the SourceWriter even if you don't normally use it for sources 
it will give you a good idea what belongs in the source.
It depends a bit on what kind of birth/marriage source you have.
My birth and marriage sources range from phone calls or emails from family 
members to indexes to transcriptions to copies of certificates.
I put all the details in the source detail text but limited in the actual 
source detail - enough to make the source findable (or easily evaluated if it's 
a family source - eg I give why that person's information is reliable in this 
instance).

Of course if you are really getting interested in the correct way to source 
anything - read Elizabeth Shown Mills books.
